Climeworks Just Changed The Carbon Capture Game
This breakout company has reached a significant milestone for carbon offsetting.
Humanity is in a race to save the big hunk of floating space rock we call home from a self-inflicted apocalypse. Planet Earth is already feeling the impact of climate change, but it has only just begun to take hold. If we continue as we are, then unremitting biblical catastrophes await us, and this world will become unrecognisably hostile. Luckily, we have a plethora of new technologies, such as renewable energy and electric vehicles, capable of significantly reducing our emissions. But, to negate the worst of climate change, we need to be carbon neutral by 2050, and even these technologies have carbon footprints. This means we must develop reliable and scalable carbon capture and storage systems to reach this monumental goal, something we have struggled to create. That is, until now, thanks to Climeworks.
Climeworks is one of the pioneers of carbon capture and storage technology and has a sizeable lead on much of the competition. They have already built facilities that are hard at work capturing and storing carbon and are currently undergoing carbon offset programmes for the likes of Microsoft.
Their Direct Air Capture and Storage (DAC+S) technology is remarkably simple. Firstly…
