Hi Scott, you are partialy correct. Raw materials aren't spread out evenly between stars and our star system appears to be very heavy element rich. Me have have thousands of times the Iridium compared to an aliens star system making us a valuable resource. The other thing to remeber is biological recourses, they may value something we produce biologically that they struggle to make on their home world.
