Russian Citizens Are Helping Ukraine Fight Back
What does this mean for Putin?
From our secure position in the West, Russia’s war on Ukraine seems absurd, barbaric, moronic, and ultimately pointless. Putin has justified this war by claiming that NATO wants Ukraine to join the alliance, which will threaten Russia’s national security. He has also gone so far as to call Ukrainians Nazis and boasted that the Russian invasion is intended to stamp out antisemitism. Again, from a Western perspective, both of these statements are objectively false and acts of blatant propaganda. But what about the Russian people? How do they feel about the war? Do they get taken in by Putin’s rhetoric, or are they just as sceptical as us? Well, in a heavy blow to Putin, new data suggests the latter.
This all starts with the Ukrainian government. They recently opened their doors to crypto donations, meaning anyone in the world can now anonymously donate towards the Armed Forces of Ukraine as well as Ukrainian civilians in dire need of humanitarian aid. With all the buzz surrounding crypto as an investment over the last few years, you may have forgotten that if crypto transactions are done correctly, you can’t trace where the money came from. This was why, in the early days, crypto became extremely popular on the dark web, as it gave internet sleuths an additional layer of security.
