Science Needs Your Help In This Post-Truth World

Science is being taught and communicated in a way that leaves the door open for politicians, lobbyists and fearmongers to grab the narrative. Here is how you can stop them.

Whether it is anti-vaxxers, climate change deniers, flat earthers, the oil industry, politicians (I’m looking at you Trump) or snake oil salesmen there is a lot of people manipulating science or just burying it. They deny or twist the evidence in favor of their narrative and cause the general public to believe misinformation. It used to be a nuisance but now we live in the post-truth age where it has become acceptable to believe what you feel is true, not what is true. This is getting out of hand and could cause everlasting damage. We need to change science in order to tackle this new threat.

So why in the information age is good science not getting through? Surely it should be thriving more than ever. Sadly, it isn’t and it is all to do with how we process information and how science is communicated.
