Tesla’s Next Big Move Is Utterly Genius
Musk has a new plan to reclaim Tesla’s EV dominance.
Tesla has been the near-tyrannical ruler of the EV world ever since it kickstarted the industry over a decade ago. At the time, its cars were cheaper, faster-charging, higher-performing, and way more efficient than anyone else’s, giving them a monstrous lead on the competition. But recently, this status quo has been rocked as rivals have significantly eroded (and even overtaken) Tesla’s advantage, which was never meant to happen. Tesla’s revolutionary battery, the 4680, was supposed to increase its lead dramatically, but instead wound up having numerous problems and delays, leaving Tesla stagnant and vulnerable. Now, a recent leak suggests Musk has a new scheme to get Tesla back as the untouchable top dog.
This leak came from Reuters, which had an exclusive report on project “Highland.” They received this scoop from four unnamed Tesla employees who claim that Tesla is looking to reduce the manufacturing costs of the Model 3. This includes reducing the number of interior components and making assembly easier and quicker. Two of the employees also said changes could be made to the powertrain. These changes are cited to be implemented at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai in the third quarter of 2023 and then rolled out to their Fremont plant in California.
