You Shouldn’t Be Surprised

When did you first think, “Oh god, Trump might actually have severe dementia”? I half suspected it for a while. But it was his 2024 presidential campaign that finally convinced me he did. MAGA leaned into the idea that Trump would unleash the Epstein files and take down the “deep state”, and Trump doubled down on this angle, even repeatedly claiming he would release the Epstein files. It was as if he had totally forgotten that he and his grubby little “grab them by the pussy” fingers have a long and sordid history with Epstein and Maxwell. And, doubling down on this narrative only backed him into the corner — he would either be forced to expose himself or make a dramatic U-turn on the only campaign promise that every American across the political spectrum agreed with. He didn’t even need this promise to win; it wasn’t his leading policy after all and wasn’t the main reason people voted for him. So, Trump set his own suicidal trap for no measurable gain whatsoever. But, despite the media’s shock that Trump is unsuccessfully trying to cover up the Epstein issue and cajoling us all to move on, we should have known this was coming from day one.
